Demolition Notice application

If you intend to demolish a building in the Fareham Borough, Gosport Borough, Havant Borough or Portsmouth City, a Demolition Notice must be submitted to the Building Control Partnership, a minimum of six weeks prior to the intended start date. This is so that all the statutory bodies and adjacent properties can be notified in advance of the demolition taking place.

How to complete a Demolition Notice application

The quickest and easiest way is to use the online Demolition Notice application form. Alternatively, you can contact us to request a standard notification form. There is no charge for a Demolition Notice application.

Please note that Planning Permission may also be required to demolish dwellings and other commercial and industrial buildings. For further advice on Planning issues, please use the following contact details:

  • Fareham addresses – 01329 236100
  • Gosport addresses – 02392 584407
  • Havant addresses – planning.development@havant.gov.uk
  • Portsmouth addresses – 02392 834827

In order for us to process this application you must also:

  • Provide a 1:1250 location plan, clearly indicating the buildings to be demolished; all adjacent properties and existing drainage systems to be sealed
  • Provide a copy of the demolition contractor’s method statement indicating safe methods of demolition
  • Give details of any asbestos contained in the building and measures taken to identify and safely remove it
  • Notify all owners with properties adjacent to the site, together with service providers such as water, gas, electricity etc, by sending them a copy of the Demolition notification form and location plan. (This will allow service providers to arrange with you for their services to be safely disconnected.)

After you submit a Demolition Notice application

  • You will be sent an acknowledgement letter containing a pin number and web address. This will give you online access to our case tracker facility and allow you to monitor the progress of your application and view the documents associated with it
  • The Building Control Partnership may also consult Environmental Health/Highways/Planning Departments and the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service prior to the issuing of a Demolition Notice acknowledgement
  • Within six weeks of receiving your completed Demolition Notice application we will issue a Section 81 Demolition Notice which sets out the course of the demolition work and a number of conditions that have to be complied with during the demolition works in order to maintain public safety and public amenity
  • When you have received the Section 81 Notice from us, you may commence demolition works
  • Please do not forget to notify us of the actual date of demolition.
