Copies of Building Regulations Approval Notices and Completion Certificates

We can supply copies of Building Regulations Approval Notices and Completion Certificates for properties in Gosport borough, Fareham Borough & Portsmouth City Council areas. You will need to make a written request, either by email or letter including proof of property ownership and make payment of the appropriate fee before we carry out the search.

Please note that Completion Certificates were not issued prior to 1992 in Fareham, Gosport & Havant and prior to 1995 in Portsmouth as they were not part of the Building Control process at that time.

Supply of an Approval Notice/Completion Certificate

  • £15.00 inc VAT/copy certificate for work carried out up to 10 years ago*
  • £30.00 inc VAT/copy certificate for work carried out up to 10 years ago if required within 2 working days
  • £36.00 inc VAT/copy certificate for work carried out more than 10 years ago*

*Please allow up to five working days for the return of the information.

Supply of non-standard information from Building Control records

  • Non standard information letter – £36.00 inc VAT
  • Letter confirming a structure is exempt from Building Regulations (after construction is complete) – £36.00 inc VAT. (There is no charge for this service prior to construction.)

Building Control property history searches

The Building Control Partnership holds extensive property records on behalf of all fourcouncils. Electronically searchable records are held on computer for Building Regulations works carried out to properties from:

  • 1992 in Fareham
  • 2003 in Gosport
  • 2000 in Havant
  • 1945 in Portsmouth.

Extensive archived records are also held for properties before these dates but accessing them involves manually searching index cards and microfiche records. The cost involved in carrying out this type of search is therefore considerably higher than that charge for accessing electronic records.

Emails and written enquiries will be answered within five working days or acknowledged within two days when you will be informed how soon you can expect a full reply.

Charges for property history searches

  • Electronic research and archive retrieval (where Building Regulations reference number(s) are provided) – £21.00 inc VAT
  • Manual research and archive retrieval (or where no Building Regulations reference number(s) are supplied)  – £31.00 inc VAT
