How we set our charges
The Building Control Partnership (BCP) set the level for Building Regulations application charges within Fareham, Gosport, Havant & Portsmouth Council areas. Charges are set so we only recover the cost of providing our building control service.
Each application charge is individually determined by us and we offer a free quote service. Please complete the Quote Form and we will contact you within 48 hours – often sooner (Monday to Friday). We welcome early involvement, particularly on larger projects, prior to the formal deposit of a Building Regulations application. This enables us to provide maximum support and advice to achieve rapid approval of your scheme.
Please supply as much information as possible to help us provide the best possible quote for your project:
- Type of work – for example: a new building, a single storey rear extension, internal alterations
- A description of the work and/or size of the building or extension – for example floor area and numbers of floors
- Any special features or methods of construction
- Any parts of the work that will be carried out by a Competent Person Scheme installer
- The likely build cost of the project.
Alternatively call us on 01329 824823 between 8.45am and 5.15pm (4.45pm Friday).
Please note our charges scheme for the four constituent partnership councils are available to view at the Building Control Business Support Centre , Depot Offices, Broadcut, Fareham, PO16 8SP. This provides information on how the councils set their Building Regulations charges, but does not contain any tables or lists of charges.
Payment of charges
Plan charge – Applications for approval with full plans only
This charge is payable on submission of an application – and is for the Building Regulations compliance assessment of the plans.
Inspection charge – Applications for approval with full plans only
The inspection charge is payable after the first site inspection has been made by one of our registered building inspectors. The applicant will be invoiced for the inspection charge, which will cover the number of inspections considered reasonable and necessary for the work involved. (For smaller works, such as structural alterations the charge is paid in full on submission of the application and may therefore not be applicable.)
Building Notice charge
This charge is payable in full when you submit your application and covers the cost of all works involved in checking and inspecting your project.
Regularisation Certificate charge
This charge is usually payable in full when you submit your application. There is no VAT attached to this charge although a penalty will be applied.
In certain cases, mainly involving large scale projects, we may agree to charges being paid by installments. Please contact us for further details. Where plans have been either approved or rejected, no further charge is payable on resubmission for substantially the same work.
Non-chargeable services
Submissions for work to provide access and facilities for disabled persons in dwellings and buildings to which the public have access may not incur a charge. For work on dwellings, submission of proof of disability accompanying the application will be requested.
All charges in respect of work are subject to VAT at the standard rate, with the exception of Regularisation charges. These notes are for guidance only and are not a substitute for Statutory Instrument 2010 No. 404 which contains the full statement of the law.
