Pre submission advice

The Building Regulations are set by Government and are here to ensure the buildings we live and work in are safe and healthy and energy efficient. It is building control’s role to ensure that this legislation is implemented.

This may be your first experience of using The Building Control Partnership and we aim to support you through the process from start to finish.  Consider us a second pair of eyes for your project, especially if you have not used a building control service before. We offer free pre-application advice so please contact us to discuss your proposals.

Remember that obtaining Planning Permission is a separate process to Building Regulations approval.  You should always check with your local Planning department to confirm whether this is needed before you start any work.

Benefit from our experience

• We are a 20-strong team of professionally qualified Registered Building Inspectors and an access officer. Backed by our dedicated Business Support team, between us we have a wealth of experience and expertise to offer.
• Our inspectors all live locally and have a detailed knowledge of local construction types and ground conditions.
• Together with our access to construction records of existing properties dating back many decades, a call to or meeting with one of our Building Control Partnership inspectors often gives the full picture before you start your project.
• If appropriate, we can also involve other bodies such as the Fire Service or Planning colleagues by setting up joint meetings to discuss your proposals.

• Our Access officer can review schemes at a very early stage and provide advice on the best way to comply with both Part M of the Building Regulations and the Equalities Act.
